When storage demand grows, the default assumption is that a second tank is required. With a Timbertank, that is rarely the most economical path. Existing barrels can often be enlarged to meet higher storage demand, delivering savings of up to 40% compared with constructing a new replacement tank from scratch.
Upsizing works by increasing the barrel height within the existing footprint, taking advantage of the modular construction method that makes Timbertanks fast to build in the first place. The liner is replaced as part of the process, returning the asset to a like-new internal condition with expanded capacity.

Surplus Timbertanks are not written off , they are recycled in practical ways. A tank that is no longer needed in its current location can be dismantled, transported, and rebuilt on a new site many kilometres away. Smaller tanks can sometimes be shifted intact over a short distance without full disassembly.
Where a tank cannot be relocated, it can be on-sold, refurbished for a new duty on the same site, or shifted to a different position within the same property to allow plant expansion.
